Welcome, you are about to be exposed to the the different components of the blended learning approach. This website provides critical information and resources that can be used to understand the dynamics of the blended learning approach.
You will be expected to complete the required activities on each page. You will present your answers to each activity section to the entire class via conference call. You will be directed to the required activity page by clicking the link titled "REQUIRED ACTIVITY". Now let's begin. What is Blended learning?
The term blended learning is used to describe a solution that combines several different delivery methods, such as collaboration software, Web-based courses, EPSS, and knowledge management practices. Blended learning also is used to describe learning that mixes various event-based activities, including face-to-face classrooms, live e-learning, and self-paced learning. It is also an educational formation the integrates elearning techniques including online delivery of materials through web pages, discussion boards and/or email with traditional teaching methods including lectures, in-person discussions, seminars, or tutorials.
Blended learning is the combination of multiple approaches to teaching or to educational processes which involve the deployment of a diversity of methods and resources or to learning experiences which are derived from more than one kind of information source. Examples include combining technology-based materials and traditional print materials, group and individual study, structured pace study and self-paced study, tutorial and coaching. Blending different modes of learning may offer the potential of delivering learning activities that support the diverse learning needs of the learner. The continued growth in the area of distance education and blended learning is a testament to the belief that this approach to designing and delivering instruction produces positive learning impact.Blended learning can be synchronous face-to-face formats which include instructor-led classrooms and lectures, hands-on lab and workshops, coaching/mentoring, on-the-job training, etc.
It can also be synchronous online formats which include live online learning, online chats platforms, conference calls, video conferencing, mobile chats and videos, virtual classrooms, webinars and web-enabled broadcast, instant messaging sessions.
Asynchronous formats include online discussions boards, listservs, emails, blogs, wikis, online tutorials, simulations, online assessments, podcast, cd-roms, web pages, web/ computer based training modules, simulations, electronic performance support systems, online learning communities, etc.
The assumption here is that as faculty members of XYD University, you have all designed instruction using a blended learning approach at one time or the other.
